Peace and quiet is underrated.

After her last brush with murder, Larklyn Davis is relieved to be spending her time with the talented new horse at her stables instead of tripping over body parts. While she’s trying to figure out why her newest horse has lost his mojo, she’s also puzzling over her relationship with the brooding, uncommunicative Detective Brecken Wilson.

But then, disaster strikes, and both Lark’s reputation and business are on the line. Once again she finds herself pulled into a murder case and in close proximity to the handsome Detective. Throw in a dashing veterinarian plus a matchmaking town and Lark’s life spins out of control. As clues pile up and all evidence leads back to her barn, Lark gets saddled up to solve another mystery.

Who knew life in Barrow Bay would stir up so much trouble?

~ Character Guest Post ~

Hello everyone. My name is Elise Blackburn, and I’ve been asked here today to reveal my secrets to raising children. I have… I’m sorry, had two wonderful children, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, though I’m working on adding to that list. Yes, Lark, I’m talking about you. No, I’m not going to nag Janet. She’s got enough issues. Stop trying to throw her under the bus.

After all this time, here are a few things I’ve learned about raising children:

1 — No one does it perfect. You try your best, wait until they’re grown and then figure out what you did wrong. Don’t think that just because people are adults, you can’t change their behavior. Nagging does wonders.

2 — Any mother that has everything together is lying. Children and organization are not compatible concepts. There is a range in this, but it’s more about how much energy the parent has to fight or stay up cleaning. No one’s children are perfectly clean. And if they are, you don’t need those people in your life, making you feel bad. Run away from perfect. Find the imperfect people. We’re more fun and generally we have tea and alcohol.

3 — Make them strong. Strong enough to stand up to you, to other people, to the world. Make them proud of who they are and willing to defend what they believe in, even when it’s marrying a man that is clearly wrong for them (Yes, Lark. I’m talking about you again. Deal with it.). They’ll figure out the mistakes and fix them if they’re strong enough. Being weak never helped anyone.

4 — There’s no shame in asking for help. We aren’t meant to raise children on our own. We’re meant to raise them as a community. Lean on your people, let your children learn from the amazing people you choose to surround yourself with as well as you. That way you’ll have more people to blame when they tell you they’re messed up.

5 — Tea is your friend. Caffeine can get you up in the morning and keep you going in the afternoon. I suggest Earl Grey, but a nice spicy Chai can also give you a nice lift on days you’re sagging. You will sleep through the night again once they move out. Probably.

6 — Laugh when you can cry when you need to, drink when you can’t tell the difference. I’m pretty sure this one is self-explanatory.

I hoped this helped. If you need more, please feel free to stop by my Tea House in Barrow Bay. I’m sure we can find the right tea to make you forget your children for a few minutes.

Stay strong.

  1. This book sounds intriguing and like a real good page turner. I will be adding it to my TBR list as I already have her first book. Have a Great week. God bless you.
